Building a Stronger Burley (Volunteering)

Our Building a Stronger Burley project will increase a sense of local pride and the civic participation of people living in the Burley area to support local people to develop a community vision.

A key element of the project is to provide training for a group of local residents to become Community Leaders so that they can make this shared vision for Burley a reality. The Community Leaders will develop, organise and deliver community events which celebrate the wealth of diverse cultures in our area; and set up group activities which develop skills, encourage inclusion and provide opportunities to build friendship networks. The events will celebrate the rich cultures, experiences and skills of the communities in Burley.

The Community Leadership Training programme will include:

vision, values and leadership skills

working with communities

working in a team

planning and delivering events

running groups for the community

Building a Stronger Burley will use an asset based community development way of working to involve and empower local people. The project will run for two years and is funded by the Home Office.
